Estimation of soil water retention curves from soil bulk electrical conductivity and water content measurements

چکیده
Measurement of soil water retention curves (SWRCs) is time consuming, and there no single laboratory device available to measure a SWRC over an entire range relevant pressures. The van Genuchten (vG) model commonly used characterize the shape SWRC. Bulk electrical conductivity as function content, σ(θ), has been estimate hydraulic properties unsaturated soils, thus making it possible relate σ(θ) saturated residual content values, θs θr, can be estimated from bulk density particle size distribution. In this study, we present approach vG parameters m α σ measured at contents, well values intermediate contents. A thermo-time domain reflectometry (thermo-TDR) sensor θ same sample volume. SWRCs for three soils (Glassil 530 sand, Tennessee silt loam Illinois clay with densities ranging 1.52 1.67 g cm−3, 1.05 1.25 cm−3 1.2 respectively) are measurements compared direct obtained tension table pressure plate extractors. Additional comparisons made using data literature. proposed method performs when (with average RMSE bias 0.041 cm3 0.008 respectively). Results indicate that new based accurately estimates SWRCs.

simultaneous scaling of soil water retention and hydraulic conductivity functions
abstract scaling methods, which are based on similar media theory, are used to simplify the statistic description of soil spatial variations. to simulate the water flow in heterogeneous soils, simultaneous scaling of soil hydraulic functions, including soil water retention and unsaturated hydraulic conductivity functions, is highly desirable. in the similar media theory, the simultaneous scalin...

The field-scale application of apparent soil electrical conductivity (ECa) to agriculture has its origin in the measurement of soil salinity, which is an arid-zone problem associated with irrigated agricultural land and with areas having shallow water tables. Apparent soil electrical conductivity is influenced by a combination of physico-chemical properties including soluble salts, clay content...
